What is an ISP?

An Internet Service Provider or ISP for short, is a company which supplies you with an internet connection.

There are a huge number of ISPs in the UK, ranging from the largest ones like BT, Virgin Media, Sky and TalkTalk, to smaller providers such as Plusnet or the Post Office.

ISPs come in a range of forms, whether privately or publicly operated, non-profit or community-owned. Not all ISPs are available nationwide and some operate only in certain areas, such as Gigaclear who are based in the West Country.
